621 Francis Spinner, Interesting 1859 Political Spinner Letter
Discussing “The Necessity of Having Every Man of Them at
the Polls”.
Mohawk, NY. October 31, 1859. Hand written and
signed 4 page letter in Spinner’s hand. Spinner discusses local New
York political matters including to get everyman at the polls, He
states “Within a week, I have sent something to over 3000
Republican voters...”; he ends the letter discussing mobilizing the
local areas of Ohio to “Arrange for bringing out the full Republican
Vote”. VG to Fine condition due to water staining and foxing, with
usually folds. Interesting political content, nothing ever

626 Civil War era letter and envelope, Columbus, Kentucky, June
28, 1863.
Columbus, Kentucky. 1863, “…the hospital has been
broke up and both have been consolidated in to one and I am going
to remain here until the Hospital Furniture is moved or turned over
to the Quartermaster… Dr. Riley… said that he had got the Blanks
(furlough) signed by Dr. Allen Med Inspector of Gen. Grant’s
Dept...our Co has been in a fight since they went down to Memphis
and I heard that there was seven of our men missing... our Col John
Murray has been in a fight down in Vicksburg and was wounded in
the head...I would like to be home on the 4th of July...they are mak-
ing great preparations here to celebrate the 4th on the Old
Fashioned Style and will have a gay old time of it...I don’t know as I
shall go to Celebration as I have seen plenty of Celebrations in
earnest within the last two years there has been 25-30 boys
Furloughed from here with the last two weeks and as many more
have been sent to Mound City to be discharged...” VF condition let-
ter with envelope and 3 cent stamp in fair condition. Great piece of
