President and Henry Clews as Treasurer. Henry Clews was born in
England. He emigrated to the United States c.1850 and joined an
import business as a junior clerk. His own firm, Clews and Company,
was formed in 1877. Refusing public office, he nevertheless orga-
nized the “Committee of 70,” which deposed the Tweed Ring in New
York City. Listed railroad and bond in Cox. Scarce and attractive rev-
