1060Mercantile Bank Uncut Color Trial Proprietary Proof Sheet.Waterloo, Illinois, Uncut sheet of 4 notes of central vignettes, titles
and text missing underprints and borders, ND (originally printed
ca. 1850-60’s, these were printed ca.1960-70’s by ABNC from the
original plates), $1-$2-$3-$5, (All Haxby Unlisted as well as unlisted
location “Waterloo”), Haxby has no mention of any notes from
Waterloo or with “The Mercantile Bank” title or designs, evidently
they are all Unknown notes, Modern “Proprietary Proof Sheet”, The
$1 note has sailor on LR, young woman with bird on left of large red
central numeral “1” and portrait of another young woman on right
of numeral and state seal on LL; The $2 note has central Screaming
Eagle with woman holding basket on head on UL and state seal on
LR;The $3 note has man petting dog on LL, Seated allegorical plenty
with cornucopia in middle flanked by two young girls, state seal
LR; The $5 note has young girl holding piece of fruit on LR, Native
Americans looking at lovely waterfall scene flanked by red numeral
“5’s” with state seal on LL, Amazing color trial sheet in orange-
brown, Black printing with red underprint printed on thin white
card, PMG graded Choice About Uncirculated 58, the sheet could
be cut and the notes would get a higher grade, but this was unique

1061Shelbyville, State of Indiana, 185x (ca.1850’s) Unissued Obsolete Scrip Note Pair.IN. Lot of 2 notes, Both same issuer, includes 15 cts
and 75 cts scrip obsolete notes, both are Black with red underprint
protector and denomination on light blue paper, Counterfoil on left
with stags or elks, middle with early locomotive pulling passenger
cars by large rock, right with standing allegorical justice, the 15 ct
note is Choice XF to AU while the 75 ct note appears the same but
there was a pull on the back that thinned the paper and has been
mended and is difficult to view. Attractive and early Indiana railroad
