New Orleans, Louisiana, Lot of 7 notes, Includes New
Orlean issues, Canal Bank, $50, appears CU but there is a 1 inch
razor slice on the bottom right border; Canal & Banking Co. $100,
Crisp AU to Uncirculated; Citizens bank trio, $5, 1860, partially
issued, appears CU but there is a 1 inch tear on top left margin, $100,
AU<Uncirculated with rust or stain upper right, and $100 < 100
Piastres, Appears AU<CU, 3/4 inch tear on left margin; Shreveport
issues, $5 and $10, both appear Uncirculated with small cuts on the
top left or left borders. Attractive looking group with issues.

“Maryland Plate Note”.
Baltimore, Maryland, 18xx (ca.1830’s),
$50, (K/S/G 5.35.11), Maryland Plate Note, Black on india paper, two
young women flank shield at top center, Standing Justice at right
and seated Liberty with Staff and cap on left, No S/N, A classic proof
and also well researched in the Maryland book. The banking house
of J.I. Cohen, Jr. & Brothers conducted business on the corner of
Baltimore & Calvert Streets, among the principals was Col. Mendes
I. Cohen, who was a collector and antiquarian with interests in art,
coins, Egyptian relics, armor and more, Historic note. Choice to
Gem Uncirculated condition, DUBS, (Ex. ABN Sale part of lot 630,
Ex Smythe & Co., Auction 247, Mar. 23, 2005, Lot #4139, sold for
$748)

is ca.1960<70’s), $50, (MS<20<G24a), listed as SENC in Haxby,
Modern “Proprietary Proof”. blacksmith at left, sailing ship at center
and child at right, Black printing with green underprint, printed on
thin white card, PMG graded Choice Uncirculated 64, ABNC. (ABN

Issued banknote, Black with no underprint, early locomotive passing
town in background with ships an left and right, cameo helmeted
soldiers with “5” in middle flanking central vignette, S/N 8,
Counterfoils on left and right with woman’s portrait, small dog in
middle, Last sold in Smythe’s 1990 Memphis auction. UBSH<DU,
Choice VF to Almost XF condition. (Ex Lot 1340, Memphis June

Cambridge, Massachusetts, 18xx, (ca.1850<60’s
with this being possibly a more modern impression), $500, MA<430<
G80, SENC in Haxby except the note is Unlisted with American Bank
Note Imprint on top, purple on off white thin card, horse drawn
trains and building at top center, the plate had been cancelled with
“X’s” through the title and denominations, otherwise the note looks
Choice to Gem Uncirculated. Rare note in any form and possibly
unique
as
a
cancellation
impression.
