in Cox. *The Pennsylvania Company was a major holding compa-

ny, owning and operating much of the Lines West territory (west

of Pittsburgh and Erie, Pennsylvania) of the Pennsylvania Railroad,

including the Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne and Chicago Railway, the

PRR’s main route to Chicago. It also owned but did not operate the

Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad (Pan Handle

With Gold Clause of 1933.

Pennsylvania, 1897 (1933), $1000,

Specimen, Consolidated 1st Mortgage 5% Gold bond. Black with

Olive-green borders and underprint, Locomotive over bridge with

boats in front and large building in back on top and miner on bot-

tom. XF condition. Coupons attached. Rare Pennsylvania railroad

that is listed in Cox but this is an unlisted bond design and type.

Extremely attractive and ornate. This bond has overprinted on the

front diagonally a change in the terms stating that the bond is not

payable in gold but by any “Coin or Currency.....is Legal Tender for
