Specimen 6% Gold Coupon Bond.

Galveston, Texas, June 15th,

1885. $1000. Specimen bond. 2nd Mortgage. Black with green bor-

der and underprint. Long Horned bull in top middle under arched ti-

tle with locomotive at station on bottom. POC’s. Coupons attached.

This is the second of only 2 specimens found in the ABN Archives.

shares from the 1870’s and other miscellaneous popular railroads.

Almost all are issued, cancelled, and in decent condition. Should be

jects(200+), some issued, some not. Most in excellent condition.

394 Salt Lake & Ft.Douglass Rwy Co. Bond Signed By Brigham

Young’s Son.

UtahTerritory, December 31, 1884, $1000, Issued and

uncancelled, 1st Mortgage 6% Bond, Black with brown border and

underprint, Locomotive passes telegraph poles with small train in

background, XF condition, coupons attached. Salt Lake & Fort Dou-

glass Railway Company bond signed by JohnW.Young as president,

Rulon S.Wells as Secretary and included his brother BrighamYoung

Jr. and other Mormon leaders as shareholders. JohnYoung was born

in Nauvoo, Illinois to Latter Day Saint apostle BrighamYoung and

Mary Ann Angell. As a young boy, John traveled with the Mormon

pioneers from Illinois to UtahTerritory. He was ordained an apostle

by his father in 1855, when he was eleven. He was called as First

Counselor to his father in October, 1876 until the First Presidency

was dissolved by Brigham Young’s death less than a year later in

1877. Young practiced polygamy and had 4 wives. He was arrested

in Denver from a complaint of his 3rd wife from Philadelphia when

he took a 4th wife in 1878. Young’s business practices and practice

of living in NewYork City soon brought him into conflict with oth-

er church authorities. In 1888, Joseph F. Smith accused Young of

unethically using church funds to maintain a lavish lifestyle. He re-

signed from the position of counselor to the Quorum of the Twelve

Apostles in 1891. Rulon S. Wells was a Utah politician and was a

general authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Rare and historic early Mormon railroad signed by son of Brigham
