Freehold , NJ. $5, June 1, 1858, Wait 627, Haxby NJ-155-A-20, R-5. This bank was incorporated in 1855. In 1865, it was converted to the Freehold National Banking company. This note was altered from a $5 Bank of Greensborough, Georgia(Haxby GA 165-G-6). This is the Haxby plate note. Printed in black with a blue ‘FIVE’ protector above the central vignette which shows three men working on a log. A vignette of sheep shearing is at left, and a corn picking vignette is at right. �������������������������� Est. $200-400 463 463 Monmouth Bank. 1841-1844. Quartet of Obsolete Notes. Freehold , NJ. Lot of 4 Notes, Includes $1, $2, & $3, 1841-1844, Wait 644, 645, & 648, R-3. Four issued notes, all printed in black, with blank reverses. The Monmouth Bank opened in 1824 and closed in the 1830s. It was reorganized in the early 1840s, and failed in 1843. The two $1 notes(Wait 644) have a central vignette with a shield surmounted by an eagle, with maidens at left and right. At right is a vignette of Archimedes raising the world with a lever. The $2 note(Wait 645) has a central vignette of a seated woman, a shield containing ‘HOPE” and an anchor at the right, and a spinning wheel at the left. At left is a vignette of a woman with grain, and at right is a vignette of a woman sitting on a bale. The $3 note(Wait 648) has a central vignette of six women at a spring. The vignette at the right depicts a woman standing. ���������������������������������������������� Est. $140-280 464 464 Monmouth Bank. 1842. Obsolete Note. Freehold , NJ. $5, 1842, Wait Unlisted, Haxby NJ-161-16A, Probably R-5. Fine with major repairs and faults, The Monmouth Bank opened in 1824 and closed in the 1830s. It was reorganized in the early 1840s, during the depression brought on by Andrew Jackson and the panic of 1837. The reorganized bank failed in 1843. This note is printed in black, and is similar to Wait 649, which was issued by the original Monmouth Bank. This note, with a large red ‘FIVE’ overprint(not mentioned by Wait), was issued by the reorganized bank. The note has a central vignette showing Washington on horseback at Monmouth 28th June 1778, and a small farm implement vignette at the lower center. An oval male portrait vignette is at the left and a small oval portrait of Lafayette at the right.������������������������������������� Est. $120-230 465 465 Monmouth Bank. 1858. Pair of Obsolete Notes. Freehold , NJ. Lot of 2 Notes, Includes $1 & $50, 1858, Wait 643 & 652, Haxby NJ-160-G-28 , R-3 and R-7. Two issued notes. The Monmouth Bank opened in 1824 and closed in the 1830s. It was reorganized in the early 1840s and failed in 1843. Both notes are printed in black, with no reverse printing. The $1 note(Wait 643) has a central vignette of Washington on horseback at Monmouth, 28th June, 1778. It also has a small oval portrait of Hamilton at the left and a small oval portrait of Lafayette at the right. The $50 note(Wait 652) has a vignette at the upper left showing two women seated with a treasure chest. It also has a small vignette of the Monmouth Bank building at the lower center, a small oval male portrait vignette at the left, and an oval portrait vignette of Elias Boudinot at the right. ��������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������� Est. $200-400 Frenchtown 466 466 W. Uhler, O.Wyman, and George Sigafooz. 1862. Trio of Obsolete Notes. Frenchtown, NJ. Lot of 3 Notes, Includes 10 cents, 25 cents, & 50 cents, 1862, Wait 658, 683, & Unlisted, R-4 and R-5. VG with faults to AU-Unc. Three pieces of merchant scrip, all redeemable at the Union Bank of Frenchtown. W. Uhler issued scrip, such as this unissued 25c piece(Wait 658) during the Civil War to alleviate the coin shortage caused by hoarding. This note, printed in black, has a small central eagle vignette and a larger vignette at the left showing a hunter loading his gun. The 10c note(Wait 683) was from O. Wyman. It is unissued, printed in green, with a vignette showing three hounds chasing a deer. The 50c note (Unlisted in Wait) is an issued piece from merchant George Sigafooz. Trio of Obsolete Notes. Glassboro, NJ. Lot of 3 notes, Includes 5 cents, 10 cents, & $5, 1871-1877, Wait 684, 686, &Wait 690, R-6. Three pieces of merchant scrip, all printed in black, with blank reverses. The 5c scrip from Warrick & Stanger(Wait 684) was issued, and has a central eagle vignette. The 10c scrip(Wait 690) was issued by Whitney Glass Works, a company established in 1755 by the Whitney Brothers. It was issued, but has no vignettes. The $5 scrip(Wait 686) is an unissued piece from Warrick & Stanger with a vignette showing a man writing in a ledger. (3)��������������������������������������������������� Est. $110-220
