Lot of 6 vintage stereo views documenting U.S. military activity and cultural scenes during and immediately after the Spanish American War, including Philippine-American War era images. Views include: Filipino men gathered around a cockfight titled “A Cock Fight, the Favorite Filipino Sport”; hand-colored patriotic card “Brave Boys in Blue Starting for Manila”; infantry drill of the Third U.S. Cavalry in the Philippine Islands; firing line of U.S. troops preparing an attack in dense brush; an official ceremony titled “Opening Prayer— Presentation of the Sword, Washington, D.C.” commemorating wartime service; and, a portrait stereo view of Admiral George Dewey, Hero of Manila, framed by flags. Images offer strong documentary value for uniform studies, early colonial-era Philippines, and Spanish American War iconography. Condition ranges Fine to VF condition or better with some showing scattered wear, edge rubbing, mild fading, and occasional soiling consistent with age. (6). Lot of 9 Proof Vignettes used by Banco do Brasil and Republica dos Estados Unidos do Brasil banknotes, Includes: Arms of Brazil; Canal do Mangue; Arthur Bernardes (2 - 1 in Black and 1 in Blue) who was a Brazilian lawyer and politician who served the 12th president of Brazil from 1922 to 1926, used on the 1925, 50 Mil Reis, P-58, and, the 1922, 20 Mil Reis, E.1A issue banknote; Jose Bonifacio who was a Brazilian statesman, naturalist, mineralliest, professor and poet, Used on the 1925, 500 Mil Reis, P-91; Dr. P. Moraes (Prudente de Morais) was a Brazilian lawyer and politician who served as the third president of Brazil from 1894 to 1898, this vignette was used on the 1925, 200 Mil Reis, P-81; Marques de Tamandare who was a Brazilian admiral of the Imperial Navy of Brazil, this vignette was used on the 1944, 1 Cruzeiro, P-132; President Getulio Vargas who was a Brazilian lawyer and politician who served as the 14th and 17th president of Brazil, from 1930 to 1945 and from 1951 until his suicide in 1954; Princesa Isabel who was the Princess Imperial (heiress presumptive to the throne) of the Empire of Brazil and the Empire’s regent on three occasions. Most were used on ABNC printed banknotes, all are in Uncirculated to CU condition, 2 are printed on india paper that is mounted on thin card, the balance are on india paper only. (9).
