Spanish American War Era Military and Naval Stereo view Photographs, 1889-1900 Lot of 5 vintage stereo view photographs documenting U.S. Army and Navy life during the Spanish American War, including camp scenes with soldiers at ease titled “Camp Barber”; Admiral Robley D. “Fighting Bob” Evans of the U.S. Atlantic Fleet, seated aboard ship; a coastal training or outpost scene titled “Soldier Boys at Monterey, Calif ”; a tented mess view titled “One of Uncle Sam’s Banquets” showing enlisted men at table; and a large West Point Cadets parade image dated April 30, 1889, reflecting prewar military training and ceremony. Strong period uniforms, equipment, and candid daily life views throughout. Overall condition is Fine to VF condition with rubbing, edge wear, and light soiling typical of handling. typical age toning and wear, with clear and engaging images. Scenes include: British and American soldiers examining the wreckage of German observation towers; views of devastated trench systems and blasted forests at the Somme and near Verdun; American tanks leading advances over improvised bridges; artillery observers using range-finding and signal equipment; French villages reduced to rubble after shelling; aerial observation balloons ascending over Allied lines; and a final period view showing the “Avenue of the Fallen,” lined with memorial wreaths in France or Belgium. Strong battlefield imagery highlighting mechanized warfare and the physical toll of trench fighting. Condition Fin toe VF overall with typical wear, scattered edge rubbing, and some fading appropriate for age. (10).
