154 Thomas Edison Autograph and Black & White Photo and on
reverse is William McKinley Autograph and Black & White
Engraved Portrait.
Two significant autographs back to back.
Includes on face, New Jersey, 1925, Edison autograph on small
sheet with his wife’s signature below that reads “Mina Miller Edison
- “Glenmount “- Llewellyn Park July 21-1925 “. Black and White pho-
tograph of Edison in his lab ca.1912. Ensemble is matted. Edison
(1847-1931) also known as the “Wizard of Menlo Park “ is one of the
most prolific inventors with 1093 U.S patents. His invention of the
phonograph in 1877 was the first invention that gained him wide
attention along with the invention of the incandescent light bulb.
Another of his inventions the kinetoscope was an early predecessor
to the motion picture projectors we have today. Edison died in his
Llewellyn home in 1931. Reverse includes William McKinley auto-
graph on small sheet, Portrait engraving of McKinley above.
Ensemble is matted. McKinley (1843-1901) was the 25th U.S presi-
dent and served from 1897 until his assaination in 1901 in Buffalo
where he was attending the Pan-American Exposition. His killer,
Leon Czolgosz, was an anarchist and was executed for the murder
on October 29, 1901. McKinley is known for leading America to vic-
tory in the Spanish–American War and also raising protective tariffs
to protect American industry. His presidency began Republican
domination of the White House for almost thirty years. He was also
the 39th Governor of Ohio from 1892-96. .....................

155 Jack Johnson Signed Letter, First African American World
Heavy-Weight Boxing Champion.
Jack Johnson signed letter on
blue paper in pencil reads “To My Little Pal Raymond Helsal From
Former Champ Jack Johnson, VF condition ALS. Johnson (1878-
1946) became the first African American world heavy-weight box-
ing champion when he beat Canadian Tommy Burns on Boxing Day
1908 in Sydney, Australia in 14 rounds. Johnson was inducted into
both the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the World Boxing
Hall of Fame. His boxing record was 80 Wins 45 by KO 13 Losses 12
Draws 14 No Contests. He died at the age of 68 in an automobile
accident after racing angrily from a diner which refused to serve

Matters.
Washington, October 24, 1859, Hand written and signed 4
page letter in Spinner’s hand. Spinner discusses financial matters
including an overpayment to a judge; he ends the letter with “Have
nominated Hon. Tuttle to the President for apppointment as my
Assistant - I hope he will gratify me and do the country the great
good to do it “. XF condition with usual folds. ..............

157 Interesting 1859 Political Spinner Letter Discussing “The
Necessity of Having Every Man of Them at the Polls “.
Mohawk, NY. October 31, 1859. Hand written and signed 4 page let-
ter in Spinner’s hand. Spinner discusses local New York political
matters including to get everyman at the polls, He states “Within a
week, I have sent something to over 3000 Republican voters... “; he
ends the letter discussing mobilizing the local areas of Ohio to
“Arrange for bringingout the full Republican Vote “. VG to Fine con-
dition due to water staining and foxing, with usualy folds.
Interesting political content, nothing ever changes. ......

158 Important 1859 Spinner Letter Discussing Washington Pre-
Civil War Politics.
Washington, December 4, 1859, Hand written
and signed 3 page letter in Spinner’s hand. Spinner discusses an
important petition before the House and that “…. No party has a
clear majority… “; “I hope we should be able to elect Grow or
Sherman, probably the latter for Speaker... “; and then offers his
view on politicians “Such a motley crew of Hungry Wolves, made up
of all the stripes in politics has never been seen before, like Egyptian
frogs they leap into bread troughs... “; He ends the letter discussing
the rift between the North and South “The (Brown Raid) and his
execution caused intense excitement - To hear Southern members
talk, one would not think it possible that the Union could last one
night - But the Dissolution dodge is about played out, will no longer
frighten anybody.. “, the letter is in VF to XF condition with the usual
file folds and a couple of small spots of foxing, Signed with the dis-
tinctive Spinner signature. ............................................
