his contraption that evidently had an early record player in it that
would advertise products. The letter is in VF condition and the card
in XF. Amusing and interesting early marketing effort.

Issued mining claim for “Maine Lode located in Montana District
“200 Feet”, Leonard A. Gridley, Recorder, VF condition with small
pin hole on upper right, Early Montana Territory mining claim. As an
added attraction, a S.L. Clemens forgery signature was placed on
the back of this authentic mining claim with note in pencil that this
is a “Eugene Field II - Forgery”. Interesting. ................
