Smillie with Signature, ca. 1910s Large Proof Engraving of Theodore Roosevelt by G.F.C. Smillie, with his signature at bottom right. Black, Intaglio printed on india paper and mounted on cardstock. 15 x 18.5 cm. XF condition with toning and signs of wear along margins, especially at right, top left corner almost completely detached. “FromMr. Geo. H. Blake” in handwriting on back, “1104567” in blue ink at center bottom. G.F.C. Smillie, was the premiere engraver for the Bureau of Engraving & Printing at the beginning of the Twentieth Century. He also produced security engraving work for the American Bank Note Company, the National Bank Note Company, and the Homer Lee Bank Note Company. VF condition., TCC. This vignette was used on U.S. Obsolete banknotes.
