Brooklyn Bridge Centennial Celebration Certificate, 12x16 inches, Black text with blue border and undertint, View of the Brooklyn Bridge with the World Trade Towers at top center, Black and white intaglio printed vignette of the Brooklyn Bridge in front, Gold embossed seal at center bottom, Uncirculated condition. The Brooklyn Bridge started construction in 1869 and was completed fourteen years later in 1883. It was originally called the New York and Brooklyn Bridge and the East River Bridge, but it was later dubbed the Brooklyn Bridge. Fine to VF condition with toning and slight damage to the margins, black text with black handwriting, and feature an intaglio printed letterhead with Benjamin Franklin’s portrait at top center with a list of the predecessor companies that joined forces to form DW&C. Upper left in small print states “Original Designs for Vignettes and other Embellishments Furnished when required without charge”. American Bank Note Company Proof Vignette of Allegorical Female Figures used for different stock/bond certificates, printed on india paper that is unmounted. The vignettes were used for U.S. and Worldwide Obsolete banknotes, stock and bond certificates, checks, drafts and other fiscal issues. ABNC printed extra vignette proofs for use in future designs as well as for samples for their records. Most of them are known with very few impressions as vignettes (between 1 and 20 total, mostly in the 5 or 10 total printed category). Predecessor printers such as Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Co.; National Bank Note Co.; Continental Bank Note Co., and others are represented. All were acquired by ABNC over the years and kept in their archives that were stored by ABN. This is a rare opportunity to collect a rare historical engraving by this amazing company.
