Historic Charles Toppan engraved Micro-printing of the U.S. Declaration of Independence and 2 other micro printed items, The Lord’s Prayer and the Ten Commandments. The entire card that has all 3 are micro-printed items on a 4 inches by 2.5 inches card with the circular Declaration of Independence engraving being 0.75 inches in diameter, no bigger then the size of a U.S. twentieth century 1 cent piece, and the Lord’s Prayer and, the Ten Commandments, each barely over 1/2 inch in diameter. Each upper corner of the card has extremely small portraits of George Washington with small cornucopias at top flanking small Spread-winged eagle in middle at top. No imprint, but very possibly engraved by Carpenter. We sold a similar proof of this type of only the central Declaration of Independence, printed on india paper that was cut to shape and mounted in a manila file folder with the Plate # V 37263, in our very first auction in 2007, for over $1000. This is the second micro-engraving of the Declaration of Independence we have offered of this type, which dates back to the Micro-engraved version by Charles Toppan in Philadelphia on July 4, 1840. Printed in black on white coated stock, blank back, Uncirculated to CU condition with very light foxing or oxidation on the edges. This micro-engraving was an amazing accomplishment for that time period. Rare and early ABN predecessor advertising piece demonstrating amazing early technical abilities of this well known engraver.
