The Autocar Company is an American specialist manufacturer of severe-duty, Cab Over Engine vocational trucks, based in Hagerstown, Indiana. Started in 1897 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as a manufacturer of Brass Era automobiles, and trucks from 1899, Autocar is the oldest surviving motor vehicle brand in the Western Hemisphere. The last cars were produced in 1911 and the company continued as a maker of severe-duty trucks. In 1953 Autocar was taken over by theWhite Motor Company which made Autocar their top-of-the-line brand. White was taken over in turn by Volvo Trucks in 1981 with Autocar continuing as a division. In 2001, Autocar was acquired by GVWGroup, LLC, which revived Autocar as an independent company. Hupmobile was an automobile built from 1909 through 1939 by the Hupp Motor Car Company. The first Hupmobile model, the Hupp 20, was introduced at the 1909 Detroit automobile show. Their premises were in Detroit and located near what is now the Cadillac Hamtramck assembly plant. Murray Corporation of America was, from 1925 until 1939, a major supplier of complete automobile bodies to the Ford Motor Company. Non-automotive stamped steel products were added during the great depression of the 1930s. Production switched to wings for wartime aircraft and other aircraft components.
