New York, 1954. Bronze medal commemorating the 150th anniversary of the institution of the New York Historical Society, 2.5 x 2.5 inches with a matte finish. Medal face features the historical society building, while the reverse features a woman with shield and obelisk. The New-York Historical Society issued this sesqui-centennial medal in 1954 for presentation to appropriate individuals and institutions and to be placed on sale “to the commonality” at $1.50 each. It was executed after the design of Ralph J. Moore of Birmingham, with a profile of Professor Holloway on obverse, while reverse features a rendition of the classical goddess Hygeia (the ancient Greek goddess of health), Issued to promote Professor Holloway’s pills and ointments, which were popular patent medicines; and a Martin Luther and Philip Melanchthon medal, featuring their respective profiles on obverse, reverse features a group of people around a pillar with the words “Brighten Us In Your Truth” in German at top.
