Archives International Auctions - Sale 67 82 May 26, 2021 Archives International Auctions www.archivesinternational.com World Coins, Medals, Military Medals & Tokens Czechoslovakia 527 527 Julius Fučík Commemorative Medal Czechoslovakia.... 2.75 x 2.75 inch commemorative medal with a profile of Julius Fucik looking left, “JULIUS FUCIK” and “LIDE BDETE” surrounding at bottom. Medal is in a red case, with red velvet underneath. Julius Fucik was a Czechoslovak journalist, critic, writer, an active member of Communist Party of Czechoslovakia, and part of the forefront of the anti-Nazi resistance. He was imprisoned, tortured, and executed by the Nazis. The composer Luigi Nono wrote a musical piece titled Julius Fučík based on the journalist’s diary Notes from the Gallows and meant it as a tribute to his resilience in the face of Nazi aggression. ������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������� Est. $40-80 East Germany 528 528 East German Pin and Coin Trio East Germany..... Lot includes 3 pieces, all are held in protective blue cases. One includes an FDJ pin with logo at center, with blue rectangle on either side. The FDJ was the Free German Youth, a youth movement in Germany. Same box also holds an East German Socialist Labor pin, East German flag at top, hanging below is the East German Emblem surrounded by golden rays. Second box contains a 10 Jahre coin, obverse features a compass and other engineering symbols, reverse features 1969-1979 date with German text surrounding the outside. (3) ������� Est. $50-80 Europe 529 529 European Filigree Baptism Medallion, ca.1800’s Europe.... 3 x 3 inch medallion with baptism scene at center with a surrounding ornate metal filigree design. No design on back, metal clasp at top. Fine condition with tarnishing. France.... Lot of 3 pieces. Includes: 1914–1918 Commemorative war medal, Red and white striped ribbon attached to a bronze medal featuring Minerva in profile wearing a helmet on obverse, “Grande Guerre 1914-1918” at center surrounded by “Republique Francaise” inscription on reverse. This was awarded to soldiers and sailors for service in World War I. It was also awarded to civilians who met certain requirements; 1914-1918 Inter-Allied Victory medal, bronze medallion with winged figure of victory on front, “La Grande Guerre pour la civilisation 1914-1918” on back. This is a French version of a common allied campaign medal where each allied nation issued a Victory Medal to their own nationals, all issues having certain common features. It was awarded to all soldiers who served three months, consecutive or not, between 2 August 1914 and 11 November 1918 in the war zone. It was also awarded to civilian nurses, aliens (civilian or military) who served directly under French command, Marshals and generals who had a command for at least three months, prisoners of war from Alsace and Lorraine who then served in the French forces; World War I “Infanterie” pin, featuring a portrait of a man at top, surrounded by acorns and laurels, Infanterie in rectangle underneath, dangling object held by metal clasp.
