Blechhammer was the location of Nazi Germany chemical plants, prisoner of war (POW) camps, and forced labor camps. Labor camp prisoners began arriving to Blechhammer as early as June 1942. Synthetic oil production began during April 1944 to support the German war economy. Also at this time, the Blechhammer became a satellite camp of the Auschwitz extermination camp, known as Arbeitslager Blechhammer. In total, there were around 48,000 forced laborers in Blechhammer, including 2,000 British POWs. The strategic importance of this chemical site led to 15 attacks by B-24 bomber units of the American Fifteenth Air Force from bases in Italy in the second half of 1944. Est. $180-280 Germany and U.S. 275 275 Validation Board for German Dollar Bonds - Validation Certificate 1953 SpecimenCertificate.
