Willys was a brand name used by Willys–Overland Motors, an American automobile company best known for its design and production of military Jeeps (MBs) and civilian versions during the 20th century. John Willys acquired the Electric Auto-Lite Company in 1914 and in 1917 formed the Willys Corporation to act as his holding company. In 1916, it acquired the Russell Motor Car Company of Toronto, Ontario and the Curtiss Aeroplane and Motor Company in Buffalo, New York, by 1917, New Process Gear, and in 1919 acquired the Duesenberg Motors Company plant in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Odd Shares Capital Stock Specimen Certificate, Black print on red border and undertint, Cancelled overprints and POC’s, VF-XF condition, Winged automobile tire with “Bergdoll” in arch over it. POC’s. XF condition. Louis Bergdoll, a German immigrant, founded the Louis Bergdoll & Son’s Brewing Company in 1849. The company was very successful for over 70 years until prohibition and eventually was dissolved in 1951. He was also known as an amateur automobile racer in the early automobile era at the turn of the century. He favored and raced a 60 HP “Benz”. He was so fond of cars, he started his own automobile company, The Louis J. Bergdoll Motor Company, that was in existence from 1910 to 1913.
