Altman & Co., a dry goods store located on Third Avenue and 10th Street in New York City. The store grew to several other locations. In 1877, a large storefront opened on Sixth Avenue. Issued by President Taft and features his signature underneath serial number. William Howard Taft (September 15, 1857 – March 8, 1930) was the 27th president of the United States (1909–1913) and the tenth Chief Justice of the United States (1921–1930), the only person to have held both offices. Taft was elected president in 1908, the chosen successor of Theodore Roosevelt, but was defeated for re-election by Woodrow Wilson in 1912 after Roosevelt split the Republican vote by running as a third-party candidate. In 1921, President Warren G. Harding with His Signature & Photograph Washington, D.C., 1919. Typewritten letter to Warren G. Harding, United States Senator, printed on Navy Department letterhead. Regards a previous letter in which Harding requested the services of the Great Lakes Training Station band at the state meeting during the week of June 16th, 1919. Includes a note and signature from Harding near the bottom of the letter. Also included in the lot is a photograph of Harding, with his signature underneath. Warren Gamaliel Harding (November 2, 1865 – August 2, 1923) was the 29th president of the United States from 1921 until his death in 1923. A member of the Republican Party, he was one of the most popular U.S. presidents to that point. After his death, a number of scandals—including Teapot Dome—came to light, as did his extramarital affair with Nan Britton; each eroded his popular regard.
