Bust of George Washington at center, above ornate ‘Drexel Building’ text, XF condition. The Drexel building originally stood at the S.E. corner of Fifth and Chestnut Streets in Old City Philadelphia, it was built in 1885 and served as an office for the American Bank Note Company. It was demolished in 1955 and is a park today. A 10.5 x 17 inch double sided manila page from a sample book with 38 mounted intaglio proof vignettes (15 on one side and 23 on the other). The vignettes are all different, but feature the same seated allegorical man holding globe, with the surrounding scenery, imagery and other objects changing depending on what the vignette was designed for. Virtually all of these were used for stocks and bonds of different companies in various industries. Each vignette has the die and reference numbers, and some have the name of the client mentioned (e.g. Horizon Corporation, Pennwalt Corp, Windsor Fund, Cowles Communications Inc., Transamerica Corporation, etc.). Mostly AU to uncirculated but the paper mounted on is chipping not effecting the vignettes. U.S. and Canada. ND, ca.1989- 93, Uncut vertical sheet of 4 different polymer sample notes with different security elements added. All are 100 Denomination notes with oil platform on front and back with oil wagon being pulled by horses, Includes security elements with colorful and ornate designs, all with variations of maple leaf with various security features on the counterfoil margins. The notes were part of a project from Mobil Oil for testing petroleum based hydrocarbon polymer paper for printing banknotes. All are in Gem Uncirculated condition or better.
