Jersey City, NJ. Lot of 3 Notes, Includes $1; $2 (2), Wait 885 & 887, R-2. The Franklin Bank was incorporated in 1825 and suspended in October, 1826. It reopened in April, 1827, but closed after three months in July, 1827. All three notes are printed in black, with blank reverses. Fine to Choice Fine. A.B. & C. Durand Wright & Co. Four pieces. The Franklin Bank was incorporated in 1825 and suspended in October, 1826. It reopened in April, 1827, but closed after three months in July, 1827. All four notes are printed in black, with the same four vignettes, and blank reverses. The central vignette depicts Cybele seated in a chariot drawn by three lions. At left, is an oval portrait of Clinton, and at right is an oval portrait of Franklin. VG to Almost Fine condition. Durand & Wright. Lot of 3 Notes, Includes 5 cents, 10 cents, & 50 cents, Nov. 15, 1862, Wait 1020, 1021, & 1023, R-3 and R-5. Lot of 3 notes, all printed in black, with no reverse printing. J.W. Winn & Co., of 61 Barclay St. in New York, issued scrip during the Civil War which was payable at the Bank of America in Jersey City. The 5c note(Wait 1020) is unissued, the other 2 are issued. Lot of 4 Notes, Includes 1824-1826 date range, Two copies of both denominations, $1 & $2, Wait 934 & Wait Unlisted, R-4 and Rare. These notes were issued by the second Jersey City bank to use the title ‘Jersey Bank’, which was incorporated in 1818 and closed in 1826. P. Maverick & Durand. Lot of 5 Notes, Includes 5 cents & 10 cents, 1862, Wait 873, 876, & 877, R-5 and R-1. Five issued pieces. M.B.Forman issued scrip, redeemable at the City Bank, during the Civil War. Wait lists the Forman notes incorrectly, under City Bank. This 5c note(Wait 873) is printed in green on one side. It has a NJ State Arms vignette at the left. The other four notes in this lot were issued by Jersey City. During the Civil War, Jersey City issued scrip to help alleviate the coin shortage. All four notes are printed in black on the front, with red serial numbers, and the back has an elaborate denomination display in green. The two 5c notes(Wait 876) have an oval portrait of Jefferson as the central vignette. The two 10c notes(Wait 877) has an oval portrait of Venus and Eros as the central vignette. Lot of 3 Notes, Includes $3, Wait 958, R-5, bears the title of The Mechanics and Traders Bank, which was incorporated in 1853. This note is altered from a $3.00 Mechanics & Traders Bank of Georgetown, D.C.(Haxby DC 120 G-6). That institution was a fraudulent and possibly non-existent bank. The other two notes are issued by the second Jersey Bank, which incorporated in 1818 and closed in 1826. Both of these notes were payable at the Ontario Bank of New York. VG to XF. (3) �������������������������������� Est. $75-150 492 492 Morris Canal & Banking Co. 1837. Obsolete Note. Jersey City, NJ. $10, July 15, 1837, NJ-260-G62, Wait 990, R-3. The Morris Canal and Banking Company was chartered on Dec.31, 1824. Its banking privileges were suspended in October, 1841. This $10 note has a central vignette of Mercury handing Cybil a cornucopia of coins, with a griffin at left. It is printed in black with no reverse printing. RW&H.
