Quartet of Obsolete Notes. Bridgeton, NJ. Lot of 4 notes, Includes 3 cents, 5 cents, 25 cents, & 50 cents, Nov. , 1869, Wait 119, 121A, 127, & 129, R-5 and R-6. Lot of 4 notes, all printed in black. The Bridgeton Glass Works usually operated under the names of its owners. Scrip was issued from 1836 into the 1870s. Most notes available today are unsigned. The 3c and 5c notes have a NJ state arms vignette at the lower left, and are unsigned. The 25c and 50c notes have a sailor and oar vignette at the lower left and are signed by E.Dennis. Pair of Obsolete Notes. Bridgeton, NJ. Lot of 2 notes, includes $1 & $3, Oct. 1, 1839 and Oct. 21, 1839, Wait 138 & 147, R-6 and R-7. Lot of 2 notes, both printed in black. The Cumberland Bank was incorporated in 1816. The bank operated conservatively, enabling it to convert to The Cumberland National Bank in 1865. The $1 note(Wait 138) is a counterfeit of Wait 137. Early printings, such as this note, have the ‘J’ in New Jersey printed backwards. On later printings, this letter is clumsily corrected. The $3 note is genuine. The $1 note has been split in 1/2 and repaired and the $3 note has splits, VG. MDF. (2)��������������������������������������������������� Est. $140-280 429 429 Cumberland Bank. 1840. Pair ofObsolete Notes. Bridgeton, NJ. $1 & $3, Oct. 1, 1839 and Jan. 8, 1840, Wait 138 & 147, R-?. Lot of 2 notes, both printed in black. The Cumberland Bank was incorporated in 1816. The bank operated conservatively, enabling it to convert to The Cumberland National Bank in 1865. The $1 note(Wait 138) is a counterfeit of Wait 137. Early printings, such as this note, have the ‘J’ in New Jersey printed backwards, with the bottom of the letter turning to the right rather than to the left. On later printings, this letter is clumsily corrected. The $3 note(Wait 147) is genuine. VG. Two scrip pieces from Burlington. Both Burling and Ross issued scrip during the Civil War and have the same design, with an eagle and shield central vignette and a dog’s head at the lower left.
