Franked with a green 3-cent Chinese dragon stamp bearing a red overprint, with Shanghai postmark on front. Reverse shows partial transit marks, largely illegible. The U.S.S. Helena was a gunboat serving on the Yangtze River Patrol. Envelope only, no enclosure. Reverse shows multiple transit and receiving marks including a Kiukiang arrival stamp dated 7 Aug 1(?) Possibly 1912 or 1913, a blue Shanghai, China postmark, and additional partial marks. The U.S.S. Reverse bears a printed Palace Hotel, Shanghai, China circular cachet, along with a partially legible Kiukiang arrival mark.
