Formed in 1921 and headquartered in Munich, the Rhein-Main-Donau Aktiengesellschaft (RMD AG) was established to construct and operate a massive inland waterway system linking the Rhine, Main, and Danube Rivers, creating a navigable connection between the North Sea and the Black Sea. This ambitious project aimed to promote trade and industrial development across southern Germany and Central Europe by integrating river transport and hydroelectric power generation. The company’s early years were marked by engineering challenges and economic instability following World War I and the German inflation crisis, but it laid the groundwork for what would later become one of Europe’s great infrastructure achievements—the modern Main-Danube Canal completed in 1992. The certificate dates from 1922, during the initial capital-raising period, and represents shares issued to support the company’s early development and surveying efforts. Est. $90-150 326 326 Germany & U.S., Validation Board for German Dollar Bonds, General Electric Co., 1945, Specimen Certificate.
