The engraving used for the stamp was done in 1860 for the National Bank Note Co. The ten cent issue of 1890 bears same portrait. It is part of the last series of definitive postage stamps prepared by the ABNC for the post office. Western Bank Note and Engraving Company, 1913 I/U Stock Certificate, Serial #2 ITASB: D.E. Woodhull, with ca.1900-20’s WBNC Business Card. Chicago, Illinois. 1913, 20 Shares I/C Capital Stock Certificate for the Western Bank Note & Engraving Company, Low Serial #2, brown border and background with ornate design; issued to and signed by D.E. Woodhull, then president of the American Bank Note Company. Embossed corporate seal at lower left, bold printed company title at top, signed by officers as president and secretary. VF condition, Printed by American Bank Note Company, New York. Lot also includes a matching Western Bank Note Company Business Card with a micro-engraving of the engraving of the Declaration of Independence that was engraved in 1840, the company building is on the front, WBNC-ABNC. Woodhull was First Vice President of ABNC in 1913. Western Bank Note Company, founded in Chicago in the mid-19th century, was acquired by the American Bank Note Company (ABNC) in 1901. Missouri, 1884, $500 8% I/C Bond Coupon Bond, Black print with ornate black border and green underprint, Company title at top, S/N 14, ‘Paid’ stamp on face with star punched and crossed out coupons, VF to XF condition. The St. Louis Bank Note Company was an important Midwestern security printer active during the late 19th century, producing stock and bond certificates for railroads, utilities, and industrial firms. This bond is signed by C.C. Cheney as president, a prominent figure in American engraving who later served as president of the Western Bank Note Company of Chicago. During the 1880s, the St. Louis Bank Note Company was absorbed into Western, consolidating its operations under one of the leading bank note firms of the era. Cheney would go on to found the Columbian Bank Note Company in 1904 after Western was acquired by the American Bank Note Company, extending his influence across multiple generations of U.S. security printing. �������������������������������������������� Est. $150-300
