Meserve including Grant and Sherman in Uniform Civil War CDV Lot of 5 Photographs by Meserve, Includes 5 photographs of U.S. Grant; William T. Sherman; George G. Meade; Philip Sheridan all in uniform and John G Nicolay. All are 2.25 x 4 inches, Backs have printed “Collection of Americana - Frederick Hill Meserve - New York” and name of photo subjects written in pencil in Meserve’s hand. All are in exceptional condition. Frederick Hill Meserve (1865 – 1962) was a businessman and collector of photographs. He published a large collection of early American photographic portraits. In 1944 he worked with historian Carl Sandburg to publish 100 photographs of Abraham Lincoln. The Library of Congress has his photographic publishing’s in its collection. His father William Neal Meserve was a veteran of the American Civil War. (Ex. John E. ABNC. ������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������� Est. $120-200 Washington, D.C. 475 475 Washington, D.C., William McKinley & Theodore Roosevelt Rare Inaugural Souvenir Booklet, 1901 , Only 200 Printed with Memorial to McKinley Washington, D.C., 1901. Rare commemorative volume, bound in full black morocco with gilt eagle on cover, issued for the inauguration of President William McKinley and Vice President Theodore Roosevelt. One of only 200 copies retained by the Inaugural Committee, with no further printings produced. The volume includes engraved portraits of McKinley and Roosevelt in an ornate design at front; nine pages of halftones; and reproductions of steel-plate engravings by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing throughout. Additional features include a roster of Inaugural Committee members with engravings of the White House and Capitol; a reproduced photograph of Governor Dietrich of Nebraska and his staff at the 1901 inauguration; and portraits of other political figures, including James W. Templeton, who revised and rebound the work. Templeton’s note records that while the volumes were in preparation, McKinley was assassinated, with an “In Memoriam” page inserted. A scarce and historically significant piece produced in the brief period between McKinley’s inauguration and death, marking the rise of Theodore Roosevelt. Mint condition as printed.
