Baltimore and Ohio Rail Road Co., ca.1830s, Possibly Unique and Earliest Railroad Proof Stock Certificate Baltimore, Maryland, ca.1830s. Lot of 2 Items, Includes: Proof Stock Certificate with light foxing and Letter from the law offices of John K. Cowen and E. J. D. Cross signed by Cross. Uncirculated condition. No similar designs of this certificate have been found at auction or offered previously at auction, the design has 2 numeral medallions flanking the early Locomotive design in middle, All other B&O railroad certificates have vignettes flanking the central locomotive vignette, none have the medallions. Also, all known B&O certificates were printed by a security printer, this design is by Edward Stabler. Born in Maryland in 1794, Edward Stabler was self-taught and began his career engraving jewelry at the age of 16. By the time he retired in 1863, Stabler had designed seals for nearly every department in the Federal Government, several states, cities, and many businesses. ����������������� Est. $600-1000
