964 Historic ABNC Archival Letter Discussing Argentina Banknote

Production.

Nov.27, 1896. 2 page file copy letter from“T.H.Freeland”

at ABNC in New York written to C.H.Sanford, Esq. in regards to

producing banknotes for Argentina. Argentina wanted a completely

printed specimen on the final paper to be used and ABNC suggested

that it would be impractical since the note sizes and designs were not

approved and that they suggest that proofs or models be sent first

with samples of the paper to be used instead. It was also suggested

by Sanford to ABNC that they should consider using the British type

of paper and printing which Freeland, from ABNC, explained was

very easy to counterfeit and that the paper used on English notes

would not last as long as the higher quality hard finished linen fiber

paper ABNC used on their notes. Signed by Freeland as Secretary

and Manager. Rare and historic content letter from ABNC archival

correspondence file. ABNC.Est.

965 Historic ABNC Archival Letter Discussing Secret Argentina Banknote Printing.

Buenos Aires, 23 Sept 1897. 3 page letter and

financial accounting sheet from Samuel B Hale & Co., the business

representative for ABNC in Argentina, addressed to T.H. Freeland

at ABNC. Another interesting letter with content that discusses

a range of issues with Freeland. The major highlight of this letter

includes secret information about the Argentine Director of the

Mint’s visit to Europe to have plates made for a new banknote issue

and buy paper so that Argentina can print their own money rather

than use an outside printer such as ABNC. Hale feels that they will

be unsatisfied with the printing result and realize that their estimate

of cost was too low. Argentina is also unhappy with Compania Sud

Americana de Billetes quality of work and that many impressions

had to be destroyed which may also have effected their decision to

print their own banknotes. He ends the letter with the state of their

SouthAmerican investments in bonds, stocks and cash. Another rare

inside look at ABNC in South America. ABNC. Est.

966 Historic ABNC Archival Letter Discussing Uruguay Banknote

Printing.

Buenos Aires, 10 June 1897. 3 page letter and financial

accounting sheet from Samuel B Hale & Co., the business

representative for ABNC in Argentina, addressed to T.H.Freeland at

ABNC. Another interesting letter with content that discusses a range

of issues with Freeland. Hale discusses the status of Bolivian Stamp

Paper and that he is writing to the president of the Banco De Bolivia

to help deliver large stamp orders to the Bolivian Government in

small batches that they would pay for in smaller amounts rather

than have the stamps delivered all at once and be owe ABNC a

considerable sum that may not be paid in a timely manner. Hale

also discusses information on Banco Nacional Uruguay’s banknote

interests, Argentina’s new emission discussions and that they have

not made up their minds yet on the new banknote issue with the

letter ending with an accounting and breakdown of ABNC’s financial

interests inArgentina and SouthAmerica. Rare and interesting letter
