NY. Francis Elias Spinner was an American politi-

cian fromNewYork. He wasTreasurer of theUnited States from 1861

to 1875. He was the first administrator in the federal government to

use women for clerical jobs. Written and signed banking letter. Est.

Deposit.

Mohawk, NewYork, 1853, $200, Issued and punch and cut

cancelled check with canal scene on left and eagle and train on up-

per right. Signed by Spinner as Cashier. He was appointed treasurer

by Abraham Lincoln. Fine condition with small splits, folds, POC’s.
