Banknote or scrip note attached to upper left corner of the
announcement by the government of the issuance of 636,472 Livre
of 10 Sous assignats or banknotes. 210 mm x 265 mm, 4 page
announcement printed on ribbed paper in VF to XF condition with a
10 Sous note attached to the corner by sealing way or old adhesive,
the note measures 100 mm x 35 mm printed in black on lightly toned
parchment appearing paper with the numeral 10 in the middle of a
shield shaped outline, The banknote grades Fine to Fine+ condition.
Rare and early French document relating to the early issue of French

1793, 20 Sous Banknote or scrip note with the corresponding official
announcement by the government. 210 mm x 265 mm, 4 page
announcement printed on ribbed paper in VF to XF condition with
an accompanying 20 Sous, the note measures 95 mm x 35 mm print-
ed in black on lightly toned parchment type of paper with the
numeral 20 in the middle of a shield shaped outline and a black
shield printed on the back, The banknote grades Fine+ to VF condi-
tion. Rare and early French document relating to the early issue of
French paper money. .................................................

98 P.C. L. Baudin, Holograph Letter Dated 1793 With Historic
Numismatic Content.
Paris, France, May 8, 1793. Hand written
letter by P.C.L Baudin, a member of the government and Directeur
des Postes, releasing Guerin, Inspector of Paper, after the issuance
of 300 Million Assignats on paper that Guerin inspected. The letter
freed Guerin from his position. Also included are two different pos-
sible reproductions of official French Government announcements,
both announcing the 1792 issue of new assignats. Extremely rare
early French Banknote related documents. Fine with light foxing on
the letter as well as a couple of small corner tip bends, otherwise
they appear in VF condition. ......................................

99 Seige De Mayence, 1793 Issue Banknote Pair.
France, 1793, Lot
of 2 notes, Includes Black 10 Livres Assignat, P-A51 with “Seige De
Mayence” overprint on back in red with additional text, S/N 4766, VF
condition to Almost XF; 3 Livres, Issued “Seige De Mayence” note
with black circular overprint, printed with red border and text, back
with hinge remnant and 4 pin holes in the corners otherwise it would
grade Choice XF to AU, Scarce pair of historic French Seige notes.
The Siege of Mainz lasted from 14 April to 23 July 1793, a coalition of
Prussia, Austria, and other German states attacked and eventually
captured Mainz from revolutionary French forces. The allies, espe-
cially the Prussians, first tried negotiations, but this failed, and the
bombardment of the city began on the night of 17 June. Nearly
19,000 French troops surrendered at the end of the siege, but were
allowed to return to France if they promised not to fight against the
allies for one year.......................................................
