20 Bank of China & Salt Industrial Bank, ca. 1914-1916, Trio of Vignette Patterns

China, Republic set of 3 banknote vignettes

of President Yuan Shi-Kai as used on various banknotes. The three

small vignettes are pasted on a large hardboard envelope with red

ink annotations. The first vignette is of the portrait designed for Salt

Industrial Bank, numbered as “Special C-422”, while the other two

vignettes are patterns ordered by the Bank of China (functioned as the

central bank during that period) numbered “Special C-425” and “Special

C-396” (later changed to “V42505”). Also included is a set of color copies

of some of the notes that were printed using these vignettes. Printed by
