379 International Steam Pump Co., 1909 Specimen Bond

New Jersey.

$1000 Specimen 5 % 1st Lien 20 Year Sinking Fund Gold Bond. Black

print with an ornate brown border and under print. Vignette of a steam

pump with a man standing beside it at top center of certificate. Specimen

overprints, POC’s, VF-XF condition, ABNC. Bond is payable in Sterling,

Francs and Guilders. Benjamin Guggenheim was an heir in the wealthy

Guggenheim family. At the age of 20, Guggenheim went to Colorado to

handle the family’s mines in Leadville. After taking a break in Europe,

Guggenheim returned to the United States and started building mining

machinery. That business later became part of the International Steam

Pump Company in 1906. Guggenheim was elected president in 1909.

Following a trip to Europe in 1912, he decided to sail on the maiden

voyage of the Titanic in which he perished.���������������������������������Est.

and under tint. Multiple vignettes on certificate: steel manufacturing

plant and rail yards at the bottom and an allegorical woman sitting top
