602 Early ABNC Correspondence File 1883-1893.

Rio de Janeiro,

Brazil. Series of 10 different letters from Mr. A.J.Lamoureux, Editor

of “The Rio News” that was printed in Rio de Janeiro 3 times a

month for the shipping industry, to ABNC dated from October,

1882 to November 1893. Historic and interesting correspondence

file from ABNC Archives stapled to manila file folder relating to a

number of interesting items. His first 3 letters, dated 1882 and 1883

are addressed to Albert G.Goodall, President of ABNC. The first

of these discuss the Baldwin Locomotive Works, which evidently

had a branch in Brazil and also advertised in his newspaper and a

preprinted circular describing the Rio News, pasted to a sheet of

paper is included; The second letter discussed ABNC’s request to

Mr. Lamoureux to obtain 2 specimen books filled with banknotes,

one from ABNC and the other from Continental BNC, formerly held

by one of its agents in Rio who disappeared to Uruguay (evidently

due to financial problems); The third letter discusses his success in

obtaining a “portfolio of loose specimens of bonds, cheques, notes,

etc.” and asks for information on what to do with them. An 1890

letter discusses the interest of “Companhia Lupton, Sao Paulo” in

having ABNC to print shares for the company; Additional letters

requestsABNC to print colanders forThe Rio News and also for other

companies; the poor state of the English Hospital in Rio and request

for financial help; One of the highlights of the correspondence in a

letter dated 15th November, 1893, is his stating “...accept my sincere

apologies for this delay....I have been in so much confusion since this

revolution broke out...”; another letter discusses further calendar

printing requests and hospital news. The file ends with a list of letters

from the correspondence. Mostly Fine toVF condition. Historic, rare
