960 Draper, Underwood, Bald & Spencer, ND, ca.1820’s Proof Advertising Sample Sheet.

NY and PA. Large format, The firm

has locations listed “No.47 Sansom St., Philadelphia and No.14

Wall Street, NY”. Black on thin white india type of paper, large

medallion cameo in middle surrounded by dozens of allegorical

figures including sailing ships, cameos, counterfoils and numerals

and counters, Quarter folded, appears VF but one vignette has been

cut out of the top left area that could easily be replaced, still very rare

and desirable even with one vignette missing. DUBS. ������Est.

961 Hugo Fleury Original Artwork Produced for Waterlow & Son.

England, ND (ca.1930-40’s). 13 mounted pencil sketches, pen and

ink drawings and watercolors mounted on 9 by 12 inch thin manila

card on front and back. Included are 12 images of nude and scantily

clad women in various poses and one of a seated woman and man

with the globe behind them. They can probably be soaked, but I did

not want to endanger the artwork. Fleury, an artist and designer for

Waterlow & Sons, is known for designing stamps for the 1935 King

George V Silver Jubilee Issue for England as well as a 1935 Portugal

1000 Escudos Note and a number of Czechoslovakian banknotes

used in the 1940’s and also other banknotes and stamps. Rare

artwork from this well knownWaterlow &Company artist. Fine to XF

Proof sheet on thick soft paper, Counterfoils, vignettes and

allegorical figures used on obsolete banknotes, Includes portraits

of William Penn, Franklin, Washington and other notable’s,

eagles, trains and other images. Staining on top border and small

numbers under each vignette. Chas. Toppan. Rare Advertising

963 De La Rue Giori Advertising Banknote Progressive Proofs

Lot

of 4 notes. All with ND (ca.1970-90’s) “10” denomination. Printed

entirely in Russian. Face has profile of crowned Queen with playing

card Spade, Heart”, “Diamond” and other ornate details and was

used as the back of the following Russian notes in the next lot. Backs

have small areas printed. Unc. to Choice Uncirculated. Scarce TDLR
