867 Colossal Cavern Co., 1921-1931 Issued stock certificates.

Lot of 5 stocks, all cancelled, all handwritten or typed on generic
goes certificates, Colossal Cavern is a cave in Kentucky, the main
entrance is at the foot of a steep hill beyond Eaton Valley and 14
miles fromMammoth Cave. It is connected with what has long been
known as the Bed Quilt Cave. Several entrances found by local
explorers were rough and difficult. They were closed when the prop-
erty was bought in 1896 by the Louisville & Nashville railway and a
new approach made. These certificates are of the new company.

869 New York Southern Society Specimen Bond.
New York, 1899,
$100, 4% Bond. Black on brown, ornate border around it with a
vignette of New York City Arms in circle flanked by field hands har-
vesting sugar, loading a sugar wagon and driving a cotton wagon,
bottom has allegorical women representing North and South with
globe, patriotic shield and flag, Specimen overprints, POC’s, XF con-
dition, ABNC. The New York Southern Society was founded by
Algernon Sydney Sullivan. Mr. Sullivan, was a southerner who
became a prominent lawyer, businessman, and philanthropist in
New York in the late nineteenth century. Mary Mildred Sullivan,
Algernon Sullivan’s wife, a Virginian, was likewise a person imbued
with humanitarian spirit. In 1940, the New York Chapter of the
United Daughters of the Confederacy, which Mrs. Sullivan had
helped establish and which she had been the first president, created
the Mary Mildred Sullivan Award. The Southern Society went out of
existence in 1973.
