Unsearched for autographs. ������������������������������������������������������� Est. $90-160 460 460 Baltimore & Ohio Rail-Road Co., 1860, I/C Stock Certificate Signed by John Hopkins Baltimore, Maryland, 1860. 125 Shares Capital Stock I/C Certificate, Black printing with black border, Locomotive at top with allegorical woman at either side, S/N 28240, Signed by John Hopkins as Railroad President, POCs along signatures at bottom, Fine to VF condition with toning at edges and ink burns, TCC&Co. The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad was the first common carrier railroad and the oldest railroad in the United States, with its first section opening in 1830. John Hopkins was a prominent Baltimore businessman and philanthropist who played a key role in the B&O as an early stockholder, helping to secure financial support for the railroad’s expansion. Founded in 1827, the B&O was the first chartered railroad in the U.S. to offer scheduled freight and passenger services, crucially linking the East Coast with the Midwest. Beyond his involvement with the railroad, Hopkins is best known for founding Johns Hopkins University and Johns Hopkins Hospital, leaving a lasting legacy in education and healthcare. Lot of 2 Items, Includes: Proof Stock Certificate with light foxing and Letter from the law offices of John K. Cowen and E. J. D. Cross signed by Cross. Uncirculated condition. Their are no similar designs of this certificate found at auction of online that was offered previously, this design only has 2 numeral medallions flanking the early Locomotive design in middle, the only designs found all have vignettes flanking the central locomotive vignette, none with the medallion. Also, all known B&O certificates were printed by a security printer, this design is by Edward Stabler. (2).
