Archives International Auctions - Sale 95 74 July 23, 2024 Archives International Auctions www.archivesinternational.com 327 327 Radio Station Verified Reception Stamps, ND (1920-30s) Lot of 34 Radio Stamps printed by Bryant Radio. Stamps have different radio station codes at bottom, A hobby called DXing traces its roots to the earliest days of radio. Basically, people would listen for faraway radio stations, then write a note to the station with some details of what they heard. In many cases, the station would send back a confirmation. The hobbyists would see how many of these confirmations they could collect. The earliest form of confirmation sent by radio stations in the 1920s was a “Verified Reception Stamp.” The Bryant stamps are rare because they had a fairly limited run being sold directly to collectors too impatient to wait for a reply from stations between 1925 and 1927. Stamps came in a variety of colors including red, green, purple, brown, blue, gray and orange. More than 700 stations in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Cuba participated in the promotion. (34).
