The note features the phrase “State of North Carolina” in the top left corner, and is also dated from Columbia, South Carolina, and payable in Walhalla, S.C. The presence of a puzzling imprint on the upper left is due to the company’s mine in Marble, North Carolina. The note was printed by the renowned Confederate printer, Evans & Cogswell, and includes a vignette of frontiersmen on the left and a young boy’s portrait on the right, with a large gray 3 protector in between.
