Lot of 2 Partially-Printed Documents that are embossed with bold printing on fine quality laid period paper, Certificates appear to be tax receipts from the French Commune of Tonnerre (“Election de Tonnerre” translates into English as “Thunder Election”, but that is clearly not appropriate here), “Tonnerre” is a commune in the Yonne department in Bourgogne-Franche-Comt in north-central France. There is no doubt that tax funds were in demand to support the French military due to continued threat and conflicts with Britain as the active fighting in the American Revolutionary War began.
