Banco Italiano, Montevideo 50 Centesimos, P-S202ap1 and S202ap2. Front and Back Proof printed on india paper that is unmounted, Black on green underprint with Gaucho on horse with cattle and sheep at center while back is bright orange. Both Proofs are PMG graded. The face is graded Uncirculated 60 NET with comment “paper damage”, minor ink with a 1 inch triangular piece missing on the bottom and evidently archivally repaired by the banknote company years ago. Back is graded About Uncirculated 50 NET with comment “corner missing, minor rust”. Only 3 issued examples have appeared at auction previously and this is the only Obverse and Reverse proof offered at auction and the only graded example in the PMG census. ABNC. Venezuela and New York. ND ca.1950-83. Unique progress proof series of compound proofs printed on india paper mounted on white thin card. Each card has the same designs of a design element on the left, a portrait of 3 different male workers standing over small buildings with the progress proof series of Simon Bolivar portraits that are the exact ones used on multiple Venezuela banknotes dating from 1890 until the 1960s. The progress proof Bolivar portraits have various elements of the back ground engraved in a variety of designs. The portrait can be found on Banco De Venezuela, 1890 to 1936, $500 and 1000 Bolivar notes by ABNC, all rare and desirable. It was also reused on later issues beginning in 1940 until the 1960s in various denominations also. 3 of the proof cards have “Experiment” hand written on them with 2 having the dates of September and October 1983 written. All are in Uncirculated to CU condition. Est. $900-1800
