Lot of 33 Checks from the Cashiers office, Includes: 13 unissued checks from the Merchant’s Bank in the City of New York, all dated 180x with sailing ship on the upper left corner; and, 20 unissued checks dated 183x, from the New York Dry Dock Co. All are in VF to XF condition. Evidently, the unused earlier, 180x, checks, were used to take legal notes before the checks were cut into individual pieces. (33). Fernando Wood (February 14, 1812 – February 13, 1881) was an American Democratic Party politician, merchant, and real estate investor who served as the 73rd and 75th Mayor of New York City. Lot of 4, 2nd of Exchange Drafts for Drexel, Morgan & Co. Company would eventually be known as J.P. Morgan. Certificates are XF condition. 3 were issued for 1000 Pounds and 1 for 500 Pounds. The original Drexel Morgan & Co. was founded in the mid-1800s by Anthony J. Drexel with his protégé and partner, J. Pierpont Morgan. After Drexel’s death, the company reorganized in 1895 and became J.P. Morgan & Co., one of the original predecessors of what is today JPMorgan Chase. These Exchange Drafts were issued in 1894, the year before Drexel’s death. There is a possibility of the signatures on the lower right face are from J.P.
