Lot of 14 Exchanges, Includes: Hazard & Fowler, Cotton Brokers Group of 10 different, I/U First Exchanges fromHazard & Fowler, Black text with thin black border, various handstamps, Company seal at left. Fine condition. Hazard & Fowler were cotton brokers involved in the cotton trade between the North and the South in the early to mid-1800s and into the Civil War era. Following the War of 1812, a huge increase in the production of cotton resulted in an economic boom, and by midcentury, cotton was the key cash crop of the southern economy and the most important American commodity; Toulmin, Hazard & Co. 4 I/C First and Second of Exchange notes, Black text, Company logo lettering at left, Handstamp cancelled. Fine to VF condition. Toulmin, Hazard & Co. was a commission firm involved in the cotton trade between the North and South during the early to mid-1800s and into the Civil War. Signed by Walter DeWitt “Octy” Graham as president, ( January 23, 1885 – July 14, 1927). He was an American football player who played for the University of Michigan from 1904 to 1907 and was one of the leading players on the famed “Point-a-Minute” teams of 1904 and 1905. He played at the guard and tackle positions for the Michigan Wolverines football from 1904 to 1907.
