Wyoming Territory, 1886. $1000, I/U 7% Sinking Fund Gold Coupon Bond, S/N 681, Black text with brown border and underprint, Steer depicted at top center with horseshoe frame, Gold embossed seal at bottom left. VF condition. Signed by well-known businessman, soldier, financier and Wyoming cattle entrepreneur Thomas Sturgis (April 1846 - February 1914) as company president. Sturgis was appointed the second New York City Fire Commissioner by New York City Mayor Seth Low on January 1, 1902 and served in that position until the end of the Low Administration on December 31, 1903. Prior to this he served as a fire commissioner under William Lafayette Strong, replacing Austin E. Ford. Sturgis was also a developer of Cheyenne, Wyoming, where he was involved in banking, railroads and stock raising.
