Archives International Auctions - The Huntsville Collection 10 November 21, 2023 Archives International Auctions www.archivesinternational.com Waldron - Waldron is a city and Scott County’s seat located near the Oklahoma border in the Ouachita Mountains. The area grew from local industries serving the needs of the community, as well as an influx of travelers from the Forth Smith/Red River Road. Like much of the region, Waldron was not untouched by the Civil War and was the site of several Union attacks in 1863. The Union Army sought to consolidate power in Western Arkansas and eliminate the lawlessness of guerrilla bands that threatened the area. Unfortunately, the departing Union Army laid waste to Waldron, burning much of the town to prevent it from becoming of use to the Confederate military. Order and community were slow to return to Waldron following the war. It was only with the arrival of a branch of the Kansas City Southern Railroad (KCS) that Waldron once again began to experience a stable population growth. 15 15 Waldron, Arkansas.
