Issued Statement of Volunteer for Denis O’Leary, a 37 year old Laborer and Veteran residing in New York. It includes the name of his examining surgeon, mustering officer, and shows that he was paid $300 in county bounty to sign up as a volunteer. Signed by Denis O’ Leary at bottom right. Fine condition with large water stain throughout, toning, and foxing. Kellogg, ca.1861-1864 Arlington County, Virginia, ca.1861-1864. Thin card advertisement for ink, which was used as a transportation pass that was issued to Charles Murray, allowing him to travel “in and out of Camp Ethan Allen with newspapers” issued by George B. Kellogg, Adj. Fine condition with a piece of yellowed tape down center. George Bradley Kellogg (November 6, 1826 – November 12, 1875) was a Vermont military and political figure who served as Adjutant General of the Vermont Militia and a Lieutenant Colonel in the 1st Vermont Cavalry during the American Civil War and was stationed at Fort Ethan Allen, which was an earthwork fortification that the Union Army built in 1861 on the property of Gilbert Vanderwerken in Alexandria County (now Arlington County), Virginia, as part of the Civil War defenses of Washington. ������������������������������������������������������������������������� Est. $230-450 EPHEMERA - CIVIL WAR MILITARY AUTOGRAPHS New York 449 449 New York State Stock, Comptroller’s Office, January 1861 Bond Issued to Rufus King Jr., Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. NY. State of New York, 1861. $5000 I/C 6% Cert. S/N #41, VF-XF. Black on white paper, George Washington upper left, Arms of New York top middle, “1868” underprint of due date, Issued to Rufus King Jr., who was the son of Rufus King. He was a graduate of the United States Military Academy, Class of 1833, and brigadier general during the Civil War, and the brother of Charles King, who was a military commander in the Philippine– American War. His great-grandfather was Rufus King, who was one of the signers of the United States Constitution. Lieutenant King was awarded one brevet promotion (to captain) for his bravery during the Seven Days Battles, in actions at the Battle of White Oak Swamp, on June 30, 1862. During that fight, King ranked only as a section chief, took command of combined Batteries A & C, 4th U.S. Artillery, when his commander was wounded. On March 22, 1898, the United States Army finally awarded King the Medal of Honor for his actions at White Oak Swamp.
