VF condition with pronounced fold lines and minor splitting at edges, Signed by Alfred Mordecai Jr and Isaac J. Wistar. Mordecai (1840-1920) was the son of Major Alfred Mordecai, from a very prominent Philadelphia Jewish family, graduating fromWest Point in June of 1861. He was active as assistant Adjutant-General during the defense of Washington in August of 1861 and participated in the Manassas Campaign and the Battle of Bull Run. General Mordecai also taught mathematics for a period at West Point, and held other positions at USMA during the Civil War. He was also the Superintendent and Commandant of the Springfield Armory in Massachusetts. Isaac J. Wistar (November 14, 1827 - September 18, 1905) was an American lawyer, miner, farmer, soldier, and author. He served in the Union Army during the American Civil War, in which he was wounded twice, and was noted for his criticized performance during the 1864 Bermuda Hundred Campaign. After the conflict Wistar became a distinguished penologist and a writer. �������������������������������������������������������������������� Est. $120-240 650 650 Philadelphia & Atlantic Steam Navigation Co., 1849, I/U Stock Certificate Philadelphia......., Pennsylvania, 1849. 5 Shares I/U Capital Stock Certificate, Black printing on black border, Ships in stormy sea at top with other vignettes down left side, S/N #5, Certificate made out to Thomas Sully, the American portrait painter. He painted in the style of Thomas Lawrence. His subjects included national political leaders such as United States presidents: Thomas Jefferson, John Quincy Adams, and Andrew Jackson, Revolutionary War hero General Marquis de Lafayette, and many leading musicians and composers. In addition to portraits of wealthy patrons, he painted landscapes and historical pieces such as the 1819 The Passage of the Delaware. His work was adapted for use on United States coinage.
