October 4th, 1917. 180 Shares, I/U Common Stock Certificate, Black on green border and underprint, Progress vignette of Native Americans making something by hand with industrial city in background, S/N 252, toning on borders and on interior, still a very attractive stock certificate. First time offered by us and from an old estate. The Bessemer Motor Truck Company based in Grove City, Pennsylvania, built commercial vehicles from 1911 to 1926 with 0.75 to 3.5 tons Payload . These vehicles had four-cylinder engines and initially chain drive that were soon superseded by cardan drive designs. In 1923 there was a merger with the American Motors Corporation in Plainfield , New Jersey (no relation to the later AMC ) to form the Bessemer-American Motors Corporation. In 1926, the year production stopped, new models with six-cylinder engines and a payload of up to 4 tons appeared. The brand name was always Bessemer and Continental engines were used throughout.
