Highlights include: Harper’s Weekly full-page illustration of Gould’s new yacht “The Atalanta,” from an 1883 edition of the magazine, Fine condition with a small stain at bottom center; Small page depicting the rise and fall of Jay Gould, as shown in his signature’s evolution from 1854 to 1891; Trio of unused postcards featuring scenes of Lyndhurst (also known as the Jay Gould estate), in Tarrytown, New York; Pair of Lyndhurst tourism pamphlets; and a quartet of photocopies of Harper’s Weekly articles, all related to Jay Gould’s life and career, featuring photographs and illustrations of the man. Jason Gould (27 May 1836 - 2 Dec 1892) was an American railroad magnate and financial speculator who is generally identified as one of the Robber barons of the Gilded Age. Collection of Letters from various Ammunition and Firearm Manufacturers, Including US Ammunition, Iver Johnson’s Arms & Cycle Works, Aetna Explosive Co. Inc., Western Cartridge Co., E.I. du Pont de Nemours Powder Inc., and Fort Pitt Powder Co. Most of the letters refer to orders coming in or samples being sent out. However, one letter from Iver Johnson’s in particular refers to the time “when the ubiquitous legislator gets busy in the land, and tried to put though some sort of revolver legislation” and that Iver Johnson’s is appealing to all “to be on alert to detect and to obstruct” the possible legislation. All were signed by U.S. Marine Corp. Majors or Lieutenants, Deserves further research since it is so close to the end of the Civil War, Items are in Fine condition with toning and edge faults. (4).
