Boston, Massachusetts, 1871. 1 Share Capital Stock I/C Certificate, Black on black border with wharf scene at top, Cancelled stamp across face, VF condition, ABNC. Onslow Stearns (August 30, 1810 – December 29, 1878) was an American businessman and politician who served as the 32nd governor of New Hampshire. Stearns became active in politics as a Republican, serving in the New Hampshire State Senate from 1862 to 1864. He served as the Senate’s President pro tempore in 1863, and was a Delegate to the 1864 Republican National Convention. Stearns ran successfully for governor in 1869 and was reelected in 1870. Experimental banknote Specimen/Proof, 6.5 x 3.5 inches. One side features the colorful portrait of a man with allegorical women that appears to be litho printed; The other side has the portrait of an allegorical warrior woman with winged helmet and appears to be intaglio printed in gray-black, possibly depicting Britannia, AU condition.
